In a significant development for Tamil Nadu's textile industry, the Hon'ble Minister for Handlooms and Textiles announced in the Assembly during the Demand for Handlooms and Textiles for the year 2022-2023 that a feasibility study would be conducted and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be prepared for the establishment of a Textile City near Chennai. This proposed Textile City is envisioned as a mega marketing hub that will play a pivotal role in connecting businesses through both B2B (Business to Business) and B2C (Business to Customer) avenues. The primary objective is to create a seamless ecosystem that integrates the entire textile value chain, fostering backward and forward linkages.

A Prime Location for the Textile City

The identified location of land in the satellite City in Thirumazhisai is most suited for creating a Textile Marketing Hub, this Textile City is located in the outskirts of the city and close to Kuthambakkam bus terminus with primary access road connectivity to National Highway No.48 (Chennai to Bangalore road). The strategic location ensures easy connectivity, Proximity to Outer Ring Road and other districts of Tamil Nadu thereby connecting to air and Seaport for exports. The presence of the upcoming Chennai Metro Phase II Corridor 3, as well as the Kuthambakkam bus terminus at 1 kilometre, adds to the accessibility of this prime location.

The Textile City project is not only aimed at enhancing Tamil Nadu's reputation as one of the largest and most convenient textile trading hubs at the national and international levels but also as a significant generator of employment. It is estimated that this venture will provide job opportunities for approximately 20,000 people within the state. In line with the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act 1998 & Rules 2000, a professional consultant was appointed to conduct the Feasibility Study and prepare the Detailed Project Report for establishing Textile City near Chennai.
